Your data stays yours

Privacy Policy

Koko is built around a simple principle: your language practice belongs on your device, not on our servers.

Effective August 13, 2026

The short version

The Koko iPhone app does not send us your voice, words, conversations, prompts, responses, or individual vocabulary. It sends limited, content-free usage events so we can improve reliability and understand how the App is used. The Koko website separately uses website analytics.

1. Who we are

Koko is provided by Prism Labs LLC ("Prism Labs," "Koko," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled by the Koko iOS application (the "App") and the website at getkoko.app (the "Website").

Questions and privacy requests can be sent to hey@getkoko.app.

2. Information handled by the App

Conversation content stays on your device

The App is designed to perform speech recognition, conversation generation, voice playback, and progress tracking locally on your iPhone. Prism Labs does not receive, collect, or store:

  • voice recordings or microphone audio;
  • speech transcripts, prompts, or generated conversations;
  • individual vocabulary words or detailed practice history;
  • contacts, precise location, photos, or advertising identifiers;
  • an App account, profile, or sign-in credentials;
  • advertising identifiers; or
  • tracking or advertising data.

Conversation content and learning records remain under the App's local storage on your device. We cannot access, recover, or provide a copy of that information because it is not transmitted to us.

Content-free App analytics

The App sends limited events about onboarding steps, model downloads, assessment completion and estimated level, conversation duration and turn counts, paywall presentation, purchases, restores, and subscription state. Events may include learning-language and model categories, broad device class, operating-system major version, App version and build, timestamps, and coarse failure categories.

Events use random installation and session identifiers. The installation identifier is created by the App, is not an Apple advertising or hardware identifier, and resets when the App is deleted and reinstalled. We use these events only to analyze and improve Koko. We do not sell them, use them for advertising, or combine them for tracking across other companies' apps or websites.

Microphone permission

Koko requests microphone access so you can practice speaking. Audio is processed on-device for the features you choose to use. You can change microphone access at any time in iOS Settings.

App Store Connect information

Apple independently processes information when you download or use an app through the App Store. Apple may provide Prism Labs with aggregated or de-identified sales, download, performance, and diagnostic reports through App Store Connect, depending on Apple's systems and your device settings. We do not use those reports to identify you, and they do not include your Koko audio or conversations. Apple's handling of information is governed by its own privacy policy.

3. Information handled by the Website

The Website is not the Koko App. The following limited processing applies when you visit the Website.

Information you provide

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this information to respond to your request and provide support. You can request deletion of your messages at any time by emailing us.

Website analytics

We use PostHog to understand Website visits and interactions and diagnose errors. This may involve page views, button interactions, referring pages, browser and device details, approximate location derived from an IP address, session identifiers, and Website errors. PostHog may use cookies or local storage.

Security and hosting information

Vercel hosts the Website and may process standard request and security logs.

4. How we use Website information

We use Website information only to:

  • operate and secure the Website;
  • respond to your questions and support requests;
  • understand Website performance and improve the Website;
  • detect fraud, abuse, and technical problems; and
  • comply with law and protect our legal rights.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and the Website does not display third-party advertising.

5. Service providers and disclosures

We disclose information only as needed to providers that help us operate Koko. This includes our App telemetry hosting and database providers, PostHog for Website analytics, and Vercel for Website hosting. These providers process information under their own terms and our service arrangements.

We may also disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our agreements, protect rights or safety, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets. If a business transfer occurs, this policy will continue to apply unless you are notified otherwise.

6. Retention and deletion

The App's local information remains on your device until you remove it through the App or delete the App. Choosing "Delete App" in iOS removes the App's local container from that device; choosing "Offload App" may preserve local documents and data. Device backups are managed by Apple and your iOS settings.

App analytics events are retained only as long as reasonably needed to understand product use, diagnose problems, and protect the service.

We retain emails you send us until they are no longer needed to respond to your request or until you request deletion. Website analytics and security records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, subject to provider settings, legal obligations, and legitimate security needs.

7. Your choices and rights

You may ask to access, correct, or delete information we hold by emailing hey@getkoko.app. We may need to verify your request. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights and the right to appeal a decision regarding a request. Because the App has no account and analytics use a random installation identifier, we may not be able to associate events with you. You may also control cookies through your browser and App permissions through iOS Settings.

8. Children's privacy

Koko is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not submit any personal information. If you believe a child has provided information through the Website, contact us so we can delete it.

9. Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards for Website information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Website providers may process information in the United States and other countries where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Koko or applicable law changes. We will post the updated version here and revise the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
